Mock interviews

Practise before the real interview

Actuarial interviews can combine motivation, competency questions, technical reasoning and commercial awareness in the same conversation. A mock interview lets you practise that format with an actuary and get specific feedback before your real interview.

Delivered by an actuary

Your mock interview is run by an actuary who understands the profession and the types of questions asked in actuarial recruitment.

£69 per session

Members pay £55.20 per session: 20% off, a saving of £13.80.

A £39.99 a month subscription would take £13.80 off this booking and off every CV review, and opens every course while you prepare.

45-minute mock interview

We run a realistic interview covering the areas relevant to your role and stage, which can include motivation, competency questions, technical reasoning and commercial awareness. We will also ask follow-up questions when an answer needs more detail.

15 minutes of direct feedback

We use the final 15 minutes to explain what worked, where your answers were weaker and the changes that would make the biggest difference before your real interview.

A prep pack before we meet

Before the session, you receive a short set of questions selected using the information you give us when booking, so you can prepare for the areas most relevant to your interview.

Written feedback you keep

After the session, you receive written feedback covering structure, technical content, commercial awareness, communication and the questions you asked.

The hour, minute by minute

Every session follows the same basic structure.

  1. BeforePrepareTell us about the employer, role, practice area and interview stage when you book. Your prep material will be available before the session.
  2. 0 to 45 minMock interviewWe confirm the interview format and then run the mock interview without coaching you through individual answers. Expect follow-up questions where we want you to explain or defend an answer.
  3. 45 to 60 minImmediate feedbackWe step out of interview mode and focus on the changes that would improve your performance most.
  4. AfterWritten feedbackYou receive a written summary of the feedback and your priorities for further preparation.

Before the call

A prep pack built from your own answers

When you book, we ask about practice area, the employer, interview stage, when the real interview is, anything you particularly want to work on, and anything you want us to read. We use those answers to select a short set of relevant questions from our interview material.

Our interview material currently includes 159 questions across the Acttuary course library.

Questions to practise

You receive 10 questions selected around your practice area, interview stage and the information you give us. Each includes the main points a strong answer should cover and useful follow-up questions.

The lessons behind them

Where a question relates to an Acttuary lesson, we link you directly to the relevant material.

Keep it for your preparation

The pack stays on your booking page, so you can use it before and after the session.

What you are marked against

We mark the same five things the same way, so your feedback is comparable between interviewers, and between a first session and a second one later on.

Structure
Answers are clear, organised and direct. Competency answers explain the situation, what you did and the outcome without sounding rehearsed.
Technical content
Reasoning is accurate, assumptions are recognised and you are honest when a question goes beyond what you know.
Commercial awareness
You understand what the employer does, who its clients are and why relevant market or regulatory developments matter.
Communication
You explain ideas at the right level, avoid unnecessary jargon and stay clear when challenged.
Questions asked
Your questions show genuine research into the employer, role or team rather than being generic questions that could be asked anywhere.

Written feedback is provided within 3 working days of the session.

We use descriptive bands rather than an overall numerical score because a mock interview cannot predict an employer’s hiring decision.

Who runs the session

Your session is run by an actuary from the Acttuary team with experience of the profession and actuarial recruitment.

We limit the number of sessions available so that they can be delivered properly alongside our actuarial work. More about who we are.
