Terms of service

These terms apply to your use of acttuary.com (“the site”). By using the site, or by buying anything on it, you agree to them.

Who we are

Acttuary is operated by a team of UK actuaries. Our registered trading details are being finalised and will be published here before any sale is taken.

Contact and complaints: hello@acttuary.com. We reply within one working day. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts there.

What we sell

• Course membership. Monthly membership costs £39.99 and annual membership costs £249.99. Lifetime access costs £399 as a single payment. All three give access to the course library and member resources described on the pricing page.
• CV review. £39, with an optional cover-letter add-on at £9.99. Detailed written feedback on your CV, including specific recommended changes to its structure, wording and content. Reviews are completed and checked by a qualified actuary (FIA) and returned within 3 working days of your upload.
• Mock interview. £69 for a one-hour online session. The session consists of a 45-minute mock interview followed by 15 minutes of immediate feedback. It also includes preparation material before the session and written feedback afterwards.
• 1-1 coaching. £69 for a one-hour online session focused on the application or career question agreed through the booking form. It includes a written action plan after the session and one week of short email follow-up.
• Member pricing. Members receive 20% off CV reviews, mock interviews and 1-1 coaching while their eligible membership is active. Lifetime customers retain member pricing for as long as their lifetime access remains available.

Booked sessions: how they work

• All times are UK time (Europe/London), and every time we show you names its offset. We do not guess your timezone.
• Booking ahead. Sessions can be booked from 48 hours ahead up to 6 weeks out. We have day jobs and a finite number of evenings. When nothing suitable is showing, there is nothing free.
• Moving or cancelling. Sessions can be moved or cancelled without charge more than 24 hours before the booked time, from the link in your confirmation email. Different refund terms apply inside 24 hours because work may already have been carried out and the session time reserved. See the refunds and cancellation policy for the full terms.
• If you do not turn up. If you have not joined within 15 minutes of the start we treat the session as delivered and no refund is due, because the hour was held for you and cannot be sold to anyone else at that notice.
• If we do not turn up, or we have to cancel: you choose a full refund or a free rebook.
• Your 14-day cancellation right. Because a session is usually held inside the 14 days after you book it, checkout asks you to expressly request that, and to acknowledge that once the session has taken place, the statutory right to cancel is used up. Before the session takes place the right is unaffected. The detail is in the refunds and cancellation policy.
• Written feedback follows within 3 working days of the session. It is yours to keep.
• Recording. We do not record sessions. If you want to record your own, ask first and we will usually say yes.
• Sessions are 18+. As with everything else we sell, you must be 18 or over to book one.

Prices

The price you see is the whole price. There are no booking fees, service charges or mandatory extras added later, and the amount shown at checkout is the amount you pay. We are not currently VAT-registered, so no VAT is added to our prices; if we register in future, our published prices stay inclusive of it rather than rising at checkout. We can change prices for the future, but never for a period you have already paid for, and we will tell existing members before any renewal at a new price.

Buying: accounts, age and where we sell

• Course membership needs an account, because access is tied to it. Keep your sign-in details to yourself.
• You must be 18 or over to buy anything. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must make the purchase in their own name. The free content and the tools are open to everyone.
• We currently sell memberships only in the countries listed at checkout: the UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Crown Dependencies. Orders from elsewhere are declined. We will open more countries as we register for the tax regimes they require.
• Payments are taken by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.

Membership, renewal and cancellation

Monthly and annual memberships renew automatically at the end of each period until cancelled. If the renewal price changes, we will tell you before the new price is charged. You can cancel yourself at any time from your account: no emails, no phone calls, no retention scripts. Cancelling stops future renewals and you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. We send a reminder before an annual renewal.

Lifetime access is a single payment with no renewal. It provides access to the Acttuary course library, including future courses covered by the lifetime product, for as long as Acttuary continues to provide the service.

What you may do with the content

Everything on the site belongs to us: lessons, exercises, workbooks, text, design, graphics, the Acttuary name and wordmark. Membership gives you a personal, non-transferable right to use the content for your own learning, including printing or downloading a copy for yourself. You may not share your account, or copy, resell, republish or redistribute the content, and you may not use it to train a machine-learning model. You may quote small excerpts with attribution. Anything you upload to us (your CV, for example) stays yours; you give us only the permission we need to deliver the service you bought.

Certificates

Completing the required learning and assessments for an Acttuary track may produce an Acttuary certificate of completion. Acttuary certificates record completion of our learning tracks. They are not professional actuarial qualifications, do not provide IFoA exam exemptions, and Acttuary is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.

Careers information, not professional advice

The site provides careers education and information. It is not financial, investment, legal or professional advice, and we do not guarantee any application outcome. The profession is competitive and outcomes depend on you. Salary figures, employer practices and exam rules are date-stamped where we quote them and can change after we publish.

Independence

Acttuary is independent. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) or any employer mentioned on the site. Employer and institution names are used for identification only.

Acceptable use

Do not attempt to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to the site, scrape the course content in bulk, or share paid material publicly. We can suspend or close an account that does, and where a closure is our fault rather than yours, we refund the unused part of what you paid.

Liability

We are liable where the law says we must be. Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Beyond that, we are not liable for losses arising from your reliance on free informational content, and the site is provided without a warranty that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Our total liability for a paid product is limited to what you paid for it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, though if you are a consumer elsewhere in the UK, or in another country we sell to, you keep any rights your local law gives you that cannot be contracted out of.

Changes

We may update these terms, for example when we open a new product or country. The “last updated” date at the top tells you when they last changed, and changes never apply retrospectively to a purchase you have already made.
