What this drill does

It puts you under a clock on the six operations a UK numerical reasoning test is actually made of: percentages, percentage change, reverse percentages, ratios, averages, and reading two tables at once. You pick one of three shapes, the tool builds four data sheets and a set of items, and you work through them while the time runs down. At the end it marks every item, shows you the answer it wanted, and sorts the kinds of item by how long each one took you.

The last part is the point. Most people who underperform on an online numerical test are not bad at arithmetic. They lose the paper in two or three items that ate ninety seconds each, and they never find out which ones those were, because a real assessment reports a band and nothing else. A drill that tells you reverse percentages cost you four times what a share calculation did has told you what to practise on Tuesday.

The three shapes, and where each clock comes from

Data sheet sweep follows the shape Aon publishes for scales numerical: 37 tasks, finish as many as you can, in 12 minutes, with every item a statement to mark true, false or cannot say. That is about 19.5 seconds an item if you spread the time evenly, so the real skill is finding the right cell on the right sheet before you calculate anything, and answering cannot say when the sheets simply do not hold the answer. Aon’s own practice document is where the three answer options and the several data sheets come from.

Type the answer follows the shape SHL publishes for Verify Interactive numerical reasoning: a maximum of 10 questions in 18 minutes, which is about 108 seconds an item if you spread the time evenly. Few questions and real time to think means multi step arithmetic you have to finish, and nothing on screen to check yourself against. Two of the ten ask you to put four rows in order rather than to type a figure, because SHL publishes that format as interactive rather than multiple choice. What SHL’s product does and this drill does not is adapt to your answers, so this is the timing and the arithmetic, not the mechanics.

No help from the options is ours, and it is labelled as ours everywhere it appears. 12 items, each on its own 75 second clock, and twelve answers to choose from that sit close enough together that the list tells you nothing. It trains precision: if your arithmetic is a rounding out, nothing in the list will look right. We built it rather than copying a third format because no provider publishes a question count or a clock for that style of test that we could stand behind, and a number nobody published is a number this site does not print.

How the questions are made

In your browser, from a six digit drill number, using tables we invent. A cumulative claims triangle by accident year, motor premium split by driver age band, pension scheme membership by status, and three years of fund returns: the four tables an actuarial graduate is most likely to be handed in the first year of the job. Every answer is our arithmetic on our own figures, so no external number ships inside a question, and nothing here describes a real insurer, scheme or fund.

Because the tables are generated, the bank cannot run out and two visits are never the same. The drill number is shown with your result, so you can sit the identical drill again after practising, or hand the number to somebody else and compare like with like. Marking is generous in exactly one way: type a figure more precise than the question asked for and it still counts, because working to three decimal places is not a mistake.

What it assumes, and what it is not

It assumes you want the clock and the arithmetic, not a replica. The difficulty here does not adapt to your answers, there is no norm group, and therefore no percentile and no stanine. Scores on real assessments are usually reported on a nine band scale against a comparison group, and employers set their own thresholds and rarely publish them, so no score on this page can be translated into a pass or a fail anywhere else.

It is also not any provider’s own practice material and does not reproduce any provider’s interface. Aon, scales, SHL, Verify Interactive, Korn Ferry and Talent Q are the trade marks of their owners. This drill is not made by, endorsed by or connected to any of them, and it is not the practice material any of them supplies. It describes published formats so you can rehearse against a realistic clock.

Every claim this page makes about a published format was read from that provider’s own page or document on 10 September 2026, and is quoted below in the words it was read in. Practice sites state these numbers too, often with more confidence than the providers themselves; none of them is a source, so none of them is used here. Where a provider publishes nothing, this page states nothing, which is why the third drill carries our own settings and says so.

Questions people ask before an online test

What is an actuarial numerical reasoning test?
A timed data interpretation test, sat online, early in a graduate application. It is not a maths test: the arithmetic is percentages, percentage change, reverse percentages, ratios, averages and reading more than one table at once. The difficulty is doing that accurately with a clock running, on tables you have never seen before. Actuarial employers use general purpose assessment providers rather than an actuarial test of their own, so the tables are usually business data of some kind and the format depends on which provider your employer has bought.
How many questions and how long, on the shape Aon publishes for scales numerical?
Aon’s own candidate preparation page publishes 37 tasks in 12 minutes for scales numerical, and prints beside it: 37 tasks, finish as many as you can. That is about 19.5 seconds an item if you spread the time evenly. Its numerical reasoning practice document says every statement has three answer options, true, false and cannot say, that the data sits on several data sheets, and that each statement relates to only one of them. Both were read on 10 September 2026. A provider can change a product without announcing it, so your invitation is what counts.
Can I practise actuarial numerical reasoning tests for free?
This drill is free and needs no account. Every question is generated in your browser from tables we invent, so the bank does not run out and two sittings are never identical. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored and no answer is posted anywhere: close the tab and the score is gone. Where a provider supplies its own practice material through your invitation, use that as well, because it is the only place you will meet the real interface.
What about Korn Ferry and Talent Q?
Korn Ferry publishes the psychometric review for Talent Q Aspects, and says of that assessment in its foreword: This document is intended to illustrate how Aspects was developed and how it is unique to Korn Ferry. On the numerical assessment it publishes one sentence about what it measures: Measure your ability to analyze statistical data. You will be presented with various sets of figures and asked to make a number of decisions based upon your understanding of the data. What it does not publish, anywhere we could find on 10 September 2026, is how many questions that assessment holds or how long you get. The review does print a duration, and this is all of it: All three tests within Aspects Ability (Verbal, Numerical and Checking) are adaptive. They generally take between 6 and 10 minutes per test to complete, almost a third of the time of equivalent traditional tests. That is how long people take on an adaptive test, not an allowance you are given, and the same document sets out no limit at all, so this page builds no clock from it. Practice sites quote a count and a per question clock with great confidence and none of them is the publisher, so none of them is a source here. The third drill is ours instead, and labelled as ours: 12 items, 75 seconds each, twelve answers per item sitting close enough together that the list gives you nothing. If your invitation names a Korn Ferry assessment, the invitation is where the real count and clock are.
What should I have beside me when I practise?
Pen, paper and a calculator, which is what Aon’s own practice document tells candidates to have to hand before they start. Sit it on a laptop rather than a phone, in one uninterrupted block, at the time of day you expect to sit the real thing. Two of the three drills here give you one clock for the whole paper, so the skill being practised includes deciding when to abandon an item and move on.
Does a score here predict my result on a real assessment?
No, and nothing on this page suggests otherwise. There is no norm group behind it, so there is no percentile and no stanine; the difficulty does not adapt to your answers as some published formats do; and it is not any provider’s interface. What it does give you is a clock, a realistic pace, and a breakdown of which kind of item cost you the most time, which is the part you can actually train.

Practice is half of it. Knowing the words is the other half

A drill makes you faster. It does not tell you what a loss ratio is, why a claims triangle has that shape, or which provider your employer uses at which stage. Those are lessons, and the free ones cover exactly the ground this drill uses.
