- What to know
- GAD says it recruits actuarial staff two ways: directly for specialist vacancies, or as entrants to its analyst and trainee programmes, all advertised on Civil Service Jobs. It never uses the phrase graduate trainee actuary; the words on its own page are that it typically recruits qualified actuaries, trainee actuaries and analysts. Its vacancy list still carried no trainee campaign on 27 August 2026, only a learning and development officer closing 2 September and general insurance, pensions and head of function roles closing 7 and 8 September. The 2026-cycle advert closed at 23:55 on 23 November 2025 with assessment centres in the week of 26 January 2026, quoted a salary of £36,579 with a Civil Service defined benefit pension contribution of £10,596 on top, and asked only for a 2:2 or above in a degree with high mathematical content, which is a lower academic bar than most schemes here.
