UK actuarial employers, employer by employer

One page per employer in our graduate scheme tracker: what they run, what is open, the window in their own words, and the closing date where one is published. Grouped by the corner of the market they work in, because a Lloyd’s syndicate and an in-house pensions team are two different jobs.

Consultancy, large

A large consultancy. The actuarial work is advice sold to clients: pension scheme trustees and the companies that sponsor them, insurers, and investors.

Consultancy, specialist

A specialist consultancy. Smaller than the large firms and usually built around one thing, most often pensions advice or actuarial work supplied to insurers.

Life & annuities

A life insurer or annuity provider. The actuarial work is pricing, reserving and capital on long-term policies: protection, with-profits books, annuities, and bulk annuity deals that take on pension schemes.

General insurance

A general insurer. The actuarial work is pricing and reserving on motor, home, commercial and speciality lines, where a policy usually runs for a year at a time.

Lloyd's & London market

A Lloyd’s syndicate or London market carrier. The actuarial work is pricing and reserving on speciality and reinsurance business written in London.

Health & protection

A health or protection insurer. The actuarial work is pricing and reserving on income protection, critical illness, life cover and private medical insurance.

In-house pensions

An in-house pensions team. The actuarial work sits inside the scheme, or inside the employer that sponsors it, rather than in a firm selling advice to it.

Public sector

A public body. The work is advice to government, regulation of the insurance and pensions market, or running a statutory scheme, and the recruitment process is the public sector’s rather than a firm’s.

Ratings & analytics

A ratings agency or analytics provider. The actuarial work is modelling, rating insurers and building the tools other actuaries use, rather than carrying the risk.

Brokers & capital advisory

A broker or capital adviser. The actuarial work supports placing risk and raising capital, rather than pricing and reserving inside an insurer.

Every scheme in one table

The tracker holds the same rows with filters over them: open now, closing soonest, by practice area, by city, and a place to record what you have applied for.
